So yesterday at the Casito, poing_critter and theunshaven introduced me to the philosophical fascination that is Ghost in the Shell. So I can happily report that I now actually know who Major Kusanagi is. And I *like* her. In fact, I like much of GitS (snork - I've just looked at what that acronym spells, and it's so very, very wrong!) with the sole exception of the shrill, squeaky tanks (I really, realy don't do shrill and squeaky - it's what's put me off a more than one anime in the past - and why yes, I *am* thinking of the Excel saga there - why do you ask?). Even if the brown-haired, mostly unenhanced guy (Togusa? Tokusa?) does make me seriously think of Don Johnson in Miami Vice. I saw three or four episodes last night, and am looking forward to seeing the rest at some as yet undetermined future time. While I was there, they also introduced me to Helsing (Hellsing?). Which is full of much, much styliness, granted, but is actually less of a Tanja-thing than GitS was. I did, however, derive much amusement from contrasting the dubbed English dialogue with the subtitles down the bottom. Generally I tend to be in favour of subtitles over dubbing... but in this case, I found the dubbing made far more sense to me. Oh, and for those that were there at the anime evening last year when nikkers84 was house-sitting over in Howick (either _steelphoenix_ or nikkers84, feel free to pipe up here!) - what was the name of the Full Metal Alchemist character I really liked? I was trying to remember last night, but all I have is the vague image of a fairly dark and *extremely* competent male character that we'd just met (briefly) within the first three or four episodes we'd watched that night. And I think _steelphoenix_ said he was one of her favourites too...? Curious hugs Starfire Tags: anime, dvds Current Mood: amused
