Right. So. We're in Adelaide.
Coolness... if nothing else happens on this trip, I can now say that, after living on this earth for 34 years, I've now been to Australia. Hopefully, however, lots will happen and I'll have many many stories to tell when I get home (as many as you can have when you're in a city for 6 days anyway)
Impressions thus far? Lots of people smoke. And they drink a lot of what looks like milk, but closer investigation reveals to be iced coffee in tetrapaks. The hotel is pretty nice - definitely lots of room, although there was a problem initially with the door key so they ended up moving us.
I spent some of the time waiting for our room to be ready by pouring through all the tours and touristy attraction leaflets in the hotel lobby. I think I'm going to do a full day cruise tour of the Murray River on Friday, and possibly go cuddle koalas and feed kangaroos on Thursday afternoon. That, plus a walking tour of this part of the city, the art gallery, and a couple of Gryphon's conferency things (a BBQ tonight and a formal dinner tomorrow), plus getting to go so the Adelaide Zoo with Gryphon (maybe) on Saturday, mean I should be keeping myself busy :-)
I didn't end up sleeping on the plane, incidentally. I did finish two books (Working for the Devil, by Lillian Saintcrow; and Lords and Ladies, by M. Pratchett - reviews will be forthcoming when I get back), plus I watched 'A Bugs Life'... and *oh my*... peacekeeper Crichton... words actually fail me at this point, so I'm not even going to try. It made for a good flight, but has also left me just a tad fuzzy from sleep deprivation. Negotiating Customs was fun - I managed to forget to sign my arrivals card :-S
Anyway - I'd just gone out to procure milk, sugar and a decent sized mug for tea (nto a strength of the hotel, alas), and noticed the convenience store I was getting them from had internet access, so figured I'd grab 30 minutes while Gryphon was in a client meeting to say 'hi' and check in (for lo, I am both a geek and LJ addict, selah)
I'm figuring on heading back to the hotel once I'm done here and getting at least *some* sleep before I have to be sociable in front of Gryphon's work colleagues tonight. It's a plan, anyway...
I'll probably check in again once or twice while I'm here (because I am the aforementioned geek and LJ addict).
Meanwhile, hugs to all... and I'll try to have some interesting stories to tell by the time I next log in.
Hugs & jetset-y blessings
